Indian-American engineering professor wins Global Energy Prize

Kaushik Rajashekara, an Indian-origin professor of engineering at the University of Houston, has won the prestigious Global Energy Prize for outstanding contributions to transportation electrification and energy efficiency technologies while reducing power generation emissions. Only three people in the world were selected this year for the honor, bestowed by the Global Energy Association, out of a record 119 nominations from 43 countries.

India’s R&D expenditure is one of the lowest in the world: NITI Aayog

India gross expenditure on research and development (R&D) is one of the lowest in the world, with just $43 per capita, according to NITI Aayogs India Innovation Index 2021. This shows that India needs to boost this expenditure and at least be on a par with its BRICS or ASEAN counterparts like Russia ($285), Brazil ($173), and Malaysia ($293), the government think tank says.

With $87 billion, India top remittance recipient in 2021

Despite the pandemic which posed a serious threat to remittances to India from countries like the US, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, the country received $87 billion in remittances in 2021, becoming the top remittance recipient, according to a World Health Organization report.

UP CM launches scheme for the cashless medical benefit for state employees, pensioners

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched a scheme to provide cashless medical facilities to more than 75 lakh people including 22 lakh state government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya State Employees Cashless Medical Scheme, eligible people will get cashless medical facilities at government-run institutions, medical colleges, and hospitals without any financial limit.

Dinesh Gunawardena was sworn in as the new Sri Lankan PM

Dinesh Gunawardena was sworn in as the prime minister of Sri Lanka by President Ranil Wickremesinghe along with 17 other cabinet ministers. Along with Prime Minister ship, Gunawardena has additional charge of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Council, and Local Government.

Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh becomes the first certified Har Ghar Jal district of the country

Burhanpur is the only district in the country where all people from each of 254 villages have access to safe drinking water through taps. Only 36.54 percent of over one lakh households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019.

68th National Film Awards winners list

The winners of the 68th National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi. Established in 1954, the prestigious awards are administered by the Government of India’s Directorate of Film Festivals. The best Feature Film award has been given to Soorarai Pottru.

The Minister of Law and Justice informed the details of funds allocated by NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) to Legal Services Authorities to organize the Legal Aid Program in India.

The NALSA was founded in 1995 under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 to monitor and review the effectiveness of legal aid programs and to develop rules and principles for providing legal services under the Act.

It also distributes funding and grants to state legal services authorities and non-profit organizations to help them execute legal aid systems and initiatives.

The Supreme Court of India extended Green Protection to forest land in the Aravalli ranges.

The court ruling will mean around 30,000 hectares across the Aravallis and Shivaliks in Haryana will be considered forest land.

The Supreme Court held that all land covered by the special orders issued under Section 4 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) in Haryana will be treated as forests and be entitled to protection under the 1980 Forest Conservation Act.

Union Minister of Ayush Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated Vaccination Centre for children at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA).

He also launched the Bal Raksha mobile app, which is aimed at creating awareness of pediatric preventive healthcare through Ayurveda intervention amongst parents.

The app will also collect feedback from parents regarding the impact of the kit on their children health and immunity.

The All India Institute of Ayurveda, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, aims at bringing synergy between the traditional wisdom of Ayurveda and modern tools and technology.
