The ages of Surabhi and Neerja are in the ratio of 6 : 7 respectively. After 6 years the ratio of their ages will be 15 : 17. Find the age of Neerja.

Let the present ages of Surabhi and Neerja are 6x and 7x years respectively. According to question, (6x + 6)/(7x + 6) = 15/17 ⇒ (6x + 6)x17 = 15x(7x + 6) ⇒ 102x + 102 = 105x + 90 ⇒ 3x = 12 ∴ x = 4 Hence, present ages of Neerja = 7 x 4 = 28 years
