Uric Acid (or urate) is a heterocyclic compound of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen with the formula C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>4</sub>N<sub>4</sub>O<sub>3</sub>. Being fairly insoluble, uric acid can be expelled in solid form. The accumulation of uric acid in synovial fluid of joints causes gout.
