What is Domain Authority

What is Domain Authority :-

Domain Authority is a score created Develop by Moz that predicts how well website will rank on search engine result pages for the purpose of rating a website on a scale of 1-100. So the higher the domain authority of a website, the higher its scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank in search engines. Instead of thinking of domain authority as a measure of your SEO effort, think of it as a competitive metric against other sites. We calculate Domain Authority combining many of our other link metrics — linking root domains, number of total links, MozRankMozTrust, etc. — into a single DA score. This score can then be used when comparing one site to another or tracking the "ranking strength" of a website over time. To help Domain Authority calculations approximate actual ranking positions, we employ machine learning against Google"s algorithm to best model how their search engine results are generated. So if you compare your website’s DA score with that of your competitor’s site, the site with the higher DA score is likely to rank higher in search engine searches! Domain Authority consists of 40 ranking signals such as the number of links pointing to the site and the number of linking root domains – essentially the number of other sites linking to your site! Domain Authority measures the authority of the complete domain.  Similarly, PA (page authority) is the measure of an individual page.

How to check domain authority or where can you find Domain Authority :-

Domain Authority metrics are incorporated into dozens of SEO and online marketing platforms across the web. In the Moz ecosystem, you can measure Domain Authority using Open Site ExplorerMozBar (Moz"s free SEO toolbar), or in the SERP Analysis section of Keyword Explorer. Authority metrics are also incorporated into all Moz Pro campaigns, as well as the Mozscape API. There are a few domain authority checkers available online which you can use to check your website’s DA. The first is the official Moz open site explorer where you type in your domain or sub-domain address, and it will show you the latest DA score. If you are using the Chrome or Firefox browser, you can use MozBar extension to check the domain authority and page authority of any webpage, and I highly recommend that you do so. Domain authority ranking factors consist of over 40+ signals, but there are a few things which you can start doing right now to increase your website’s domain authority. First lets understand what creates good DA by understanding MozRank and MozTrust.

How to improve domain authority :-

Domain Authority is difficult to influence directly. It is made up of an aggregate of other metrics (MozRankMozTrustlink profile, and more) that each have an impact on the authority score. This was done intentionally; this metric is meant to approximate how competitive a given site is in Google search results. Since Google takes a lot of factors into account, a metric that tries to calculate it must incorporate a lot of factors as well. The best way to influence the Domain Authority metric is to improve your overall SEO. In particular, you should focus on your link profile — which influences MozRank and MozTrust — by getting more links from other well-linked-to pages. By improving your domain authority, you are also increasing your chances of improving your search engine ranking. Think of DA as a manner of calculating how competitive a website is in a Google search. The higher the domain authority of a website, the harder it is to outrank it. Similarly, when you are working on link-building for your blog, you should try to gain links from websites having good domain authority.higher Domain authority score.

As a blogger, you should be interested in the following two factors:

  • Increasing the domain authority of your blog
  • Getting links and mentions from other blogs/websites with high DA.

Following is a list of ranking factors (with explanations) which will have maximum impact on your DA and PA (Page Authority):

What is a "good" Domain Authority :-

Generally speaking, sites with a very large number of high-quality external links (such as Wikipedia or Google.com) are at the top end of the Domain Authority scale, whereas small businesses and websites with fewer inbound links may have a much lower DA score. Brand new websites will always start with a Domain Authority score of one. Because of how Domain Authority is calculated (see "Technical definition of Domain Authority" below), it"s best used as a comparative metric (rather than an absolute, concrete score) when doing research in the search results and determining which sites may have more powerful/important link profiles than others. Because it"s a comparative tool, there isn"t necessarily a "good" or "bad" Domain Authority score.
