Universities in India are broadly classified into the following types: 1. Central Universities: They are established by act of Parliament. It comes under the control of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. 2. State Universities: Established by State Governments and Union Territories by passing Local Legislative Assembly Act. 3. Deemed Universities: Universities with autonomous status provided by the Department of Higher Education 4. Private Universities: Owned and managed by private organizations after receiving approval from UGC.
